2007 Master Games Registration

The 4th Fremantle Masters Games were undoubtedly a successful event and all those involved in whatever capacity can feel justifiably proud of their achievement, in fact 97% of the participants indicated they enjoyed the experience of the Games and would encourage others to participate in the 2009 Games.

The 2007 Fremantle Masters Games were held between the 21 and the 25 of September 07 and where conducted in the City of Fremantle and surrounding venues providing five days of sporting competition and an opportunity for involvement by sports enthusiasts, including competitors and spectators. The Games combined the elements of competition and sportsmanship with promotion of the City of Fremantle as a major tourist destination providing an opportunity to see places of interest, dine with friends or just enjoy the atmosphere.

The main program for the 2007 Masters Games took place at a variety of sporting venues within the City of Fremantle and the City of Cockburn, including the Fremantle Netball Association (Gibson Park), Fremantle Leisure Centre, Glen Iris Golf Club, Hilton, Atwell and Santich Parks and the Italian Club, Fremantle. There were both land and water based sports, with each sports body responsible for the organisation and implementation of their sport under what are the usual rules of competition for Masters / Veterans sports.

The ‘Be Active Aged Care Games’, which offered the residents of nursing homes and hostels an opportunity to once again experience being part of a team and enjoying social interaction with others along with an element of competition, again proved an outstanding success.

“The Fremantle Masters Games are a fantastic incentive for mature age participants to renew, maintain or start sporting activities and socialize at the same time. They contribute to the health and welfare of our community and success comes, not from winning, but participating” said the Mayor of Fremantle, Peter Tagliaferri.

THE Fremantle Masters Games is a wonderful biennial event that embraces the spirit and vitality of mature-aged participants, as they compete with peers of the same age in a wide variety of sports.

Sport provides valuable opportunities for people of all ages to improve themselves, display teamwork and become engaged in community activities. Sport and participation is important for helping to build character, whether young or old. When involved in sport, individual character comes out, as well as determination and the ability to be part of a team.

It’s one of those areas in Australian life where we take an unambiguous attitude towards excellence and an unashamed pride in achievement. Through sport, we learn how to win and how to lose. And we learn how to do both graciously and with dignity. Put in simple terms, it’s all about our love of a challenge.

Fremantle is a unique, stimulating and colourful place, which has been enriched by a large multicultural community. We pride ourselves on being inclusive, not exclusive, which is what the Fremantle Masters Games is all about.

This event is an ideal way to manage weight, blood pressure and cholesterol while also helping to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Aside from the physical benefits, the Fremantle Masters Games creates an important social network that helps to keep everyone motivated while allowing them to discover new friends and activities at the same time.

We hope when you leave our city you will remember Fremantle fondly and return to visit us in the future. Game on!
